Modern Slavery Statement 2024

This statement is set down pursuant to section 54 of the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015 and covers the financial year from 1st January 2023 to 31st December 2023. The scope of this statement is the UK-based entity Techdow Pharma England Limited which is affiliated with the global healthcare company, Techdow Pharma.

All of our employees, suppliers and contractors must be familiar with our code of conduct and commitment to eliminating modern slavery from within our supply chain and operations.

Our Business

Our focus is on medicines designed to treat and prevent thromboembolic diseases. Every year in the United Kingdom, venous thromboembolism requires treatment in around 1 to 2 people per every thousand people.

In 2023, Techdow Pharma England delivered 21,766,140 doses of medicine to the UK healthcare system.

Our medicines are made and procured through the Techdow Group of companies and the raw materials for our medicines are produced by Hepalink, a global company which owns the Techdow Group of companies. This provides a high level of oversight and transparency for our full supply chain. Techdow Pharma England also partners with a limited network of external contract logistics service partners in the UK.

Our Commitment

Techdow believes in acting with integrity and is committed to protecting the human rights and fundamental dignity of our employees, customers, contractors and suppliers.

We are committed to management of risks and ensuring our supply chain is transparent, resilient and free from modern slavery and corruption. Techdow requires our employees, suppliers and contractors to:

Comply with all applicable laws and regulations regarding employment practices, benefits, health and safety, modern slavery and antidiscrimination.

Promote a safe environment and a workplace free of discrimination, harassment or bullying.

Avoid the use of child or forced labour in any form.

Pay fair wages and conditions in line with legislation including adequate rest periods and leave.

Treat all employees, contractors and suppliers with dignity and respect.

Oppose modern slavery in all forms.

Monitor supply chains on a continual basis for compliance with the above requirements and promptly investigate any suspected noncompliances.

All of our staff and our logistics partners are required to undergo our sustainability training, which includes training on modern slavery.

To ensure sustainability and respect for human rights is rigorously built into our governance and introduced into every aspect of our day-to-day operations, every Techdow policy and procedure contains a section on sustainability, including modern slavery.

We have specific policies on Anti-Bribery, Malpractice and Maladministration, and on the Protection of Personal Data, and our Company Handbook sets clear standards for the ethical behaviours and conduct expected of our employees.

As a global organisation headquartered in China, Techdow is committed to ensuring the highest levels ethical integrity of its supply chain, including the identification and elimination of forced labour, and specifically the ILO indicators of free and unforced labour, which include:

Freedom of workers to terminate employment

Freedom of movement

Freedom of association

Right to respectful working and living conditions

Absolute intolerance of any form of child labour

Absolute intolerance of any form of debt bondage

Prohibition of any threat of violence, harassment or intimidation, or abuse of vulnerability

Prohibition of worker-paid recruitment fees

Prohibition of compulsory or excessive overtime

Prohibition of discrimination

Prohibition of confiscation of worker’s original identification documents

Access to remedy, compensation and justice for the victims of modern slavery

Modern Slavery Risk Assessment

Heightened risk areas in relation to modern slavery include:

Use of low-skilled or migrant workforce

Use of workforce intermediaries and use of third-parties

Dangerous/undesirable work

Long or non-transparent supply chains

Raw materials such as glass, metals and minerals used in the Inhixa administration device

Country-specific risks such as poverty, conflict, low availability of education, poor human rights standards, high prevalence of child labour

In its 2022 report, the United States Department of Labor identifies China as a potential producer of goods by forced labour or child labour. The International Labour Organisation (ILO) of the United Nations has also raised concerns about forced labour in some parts of China, particularly amongst the Uyghur ethnic minority. .

We perform regular audits and checks to ensure the compliance and integrity of our supply chain and set high standards of conduct within our workforce. Risk is carefully monitored and managed within a carefully controlled working environment. Both within the United Kingdom and globally as an organisation, Techdow requires the employment of a highly educated and highly skilled workforce, operating under established and highly regulated systems, processes, policies and procedures and in compliance with the ILO Forced Labour Convention, 1930 (No.29) and the Abolition of Forced Labour Convention, 1957 (No.105), which China ratified on 12th August 2022.

Both the United Kingdom and the global Techdow Group, including our company headquarters in China, are independently audited by independent parties on an annual basis, who perform an in-depth and substantial review of our finances and governance.

We require our business partners and suppliers to work to the highest ethical standards and comply with the laws and regulations applicable to their business. While there is a higher risk of modern slavery associated with the use of third parties, Techdow Pharma England only directly employs UK-based third-parties and only procures medicines from Techdow Group affiliates in the European Union, all of which are bound to the same or similar legal standards and requirements in respect of modern slavery.

Indirectly, services in the United Kingdom are supplied via our landlord, Surrey Research Park (part of the University of Surrey) which operates under a carefully managed and monitored framework to prevent modern slavery within its supply chain.

Techdow Pharma England therefore believes that the risk of slavery within its operations and its supply chain are low, and that the risk areas are subject to suitable levels of both direct and independent monitoring.

This statement was approved by the Executive Board of Techdow Pharma England Limited on 18th January 2024.
